Today I noticed a disheveled and seemingly mentally ill woman board a bus as I was walking past. About half a block later I heard shouting coming from the bus. I stopped and saw that the bus driver was out of her seat so I hurried back to see if anyone needed help. Just as I arrived I saw the bus driver in the aisle calmly explaining that the passenger needed to get off the bus because she was being very disruptive. The passenger physically attacked her and a man on the bus intervened to help the bus driver. The passenger ran off the bus and the man and I worked to comfort the driver. She was shaken up but mostly terrified she would get fired if someone called the cops bc she had her husband and son on the bus (which I guess is against the rules). I gave her a long hug and reassured her that we wouldn't call the cops and just wanted to make sure she was okay. As we heard the sound of sirens approaching, he encouraged her to get on the move and I gave her one last squeeze. As the man and I continued on our way, I gave him a token. He said "What? No. That's what we're all here for- to look out for each other". I said, "I know. And I still think you deserve thanks". We smiled and parted ways.
